This page outlines the procedures that can be followed to upgrade from either Netmail 5.2 or Netmail 5.3 to Netmail 5.4.

 Upgrade procedures:

Note: If you are upgrading from Netmail 5.2, note that the new default username to log in to the Netmail Administration Console is now netmail (not admin). Your password does not change.

Upgrading from Netmail Platform 5.3 to 5.4

This procedure involves upgrading the entire Netmail Platform from v5.3 to v5.4

Perform an in-place upgrade of Netmail from v5.3 to v5.4:

  1. Select the Netmail Platform > Updates tab in the Netmail Administration Console.
  2. Select your Netmail Archive, Secure, and Index servers and the new software version (5.4) to which you want to upgrade
  3. Click Upgrade.

Important: Be sure you perform your upgrade when the system is not in use. Services will be restarted automatically (and connection lost) during the upgrade process. As such, any jobs that are running will fail, and end users will not be able to access their archives in Netmail Search.

Upgrading from Netmail Platform 5.2 to 5.4

This procedure involves upgrading the entire Netmail Platform from v5.2 to v5.4

Perform an in-place upgrade of Netmail Secure from v5.2 to v5.4: Select the Netmail Platform > Updates tab in the Netmail Administration Console. Then, select your Netmail Secure server and the new software version (5.4) to which you want to upgrade, and click Upgrade.

Restart your Netmail Secure system.

Stand up your Netmail Archive Master VM and the Index VM.

Proceed with the setup of Netmail Archive (go to http://localhost:8989/setup):

  1. Join the Netmail Secure cluster.
  2. Select Import v5.2 configuration.

Provision additional Netmail Archive VMs, and set them up as Worker nodes.

Decommission Netmail Archive 5.2

Upgrading from Netmail Archive 5.2 to 5.4, but keeping the existing Index Server

This procedure involves upgrading Netmail Archive but not the Index Server

Stand up your Netmail Archive Master VM.

If you do not want to migrate the Index Server to a virtual machine, you must install the Netmail Platform and register the cluster by using the following procedure:

  1. On each existing Index Server (Exalead), create a local user (an administrator) called 'netmail' and create a password for the user. This user should be the same one administering the Netmail Archive VM.
  2. Install the Netmail Platform on each machine: Run the Install.bat file located in the Netmail folder. Be sure to select only the Platform component, not the entire package.
  3. On the Index Master machine, create the index CFS cluster:
    1. Open an administrator command window and change path to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Messaging Architects\Netmail WebAdmin\etc\scripts\setup\win-edir
(you will find this path once Platform has been installed).
    2. Run InstallUtils.exe mode=createcfscluster idxip=<IP of Exalead Master>
  4. On each Index Worker node, register the node to the index CFS cluster:
    1. Open an administrator command window and change path to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Messaging Architects\Netmail WebAdmin\etc\scripts\setup\win-edir
    2. Run InstallUtils.exe mode=registertocfscluster idxip=<IP of Exalead current node> password=<Password of netmail user on current node> masterip=<IP of Exalead Master> masterpassword=<Password of netmail user on index master> [masterport=<port to warp on the master index, default 8989>]

Proceed with the setup of Netmail Archive by pointing your browser to http://localhost:8989/setup (run on the Archive Master node):

  1. Join the Netmail Secure cluster.
  2. Select Import v5.2 configuration.

During the installation, do not configure the Index Server, as it is already configured (if you do opt to detect and configure the Index Server, you may break the existing configuration). Select the Configure manually later option.

Provision additional Netmail Archive VMs, and set them up as Worker nodes.

Decommission Netmail Archive 5.2.

Upgrading from Netmail Archive 5.2 to 5.4, and deploying a new Netmail 5.4 VM for the Index Server

This procedure involves upgrading both Netmail Archive and the Index Server to Netmail 5.4 virtual machines (VMs)

Stand up your Netmail Archive Master VM and the Index VM.

Proceed with the setup of Netmail Archive (go to http://localhost:8989/setup):

  1. Join the Netmail Secure cluster.
  2. Select Import v5.2 configuration.

During the installation, do not configure the Index Server. Opt to Configure manually later.

Provision additional Netmail Archive VMs, and set them up as Worker nodes.

Decommission Netmail Archive 5.2

Follow the procedure below to Import the 5.2 Exalead Configuration:

Master Migration

Stop all services on the existing Index cluster, including the OldIndexMaster.

    1. Install the Netmail Platform on an empty NewIndexMaster using the regular Netmail Archive installation process, and run the Warp Setup to create an Index Master.
    2. Stop services on the NewIndexMaster.
    3. If the OldIndexMaster was not using a SAN (e.g., QA), copy the index (e.g., X:\Netmail Indexing\CloudView) from the OldIndexMaster to the NewIndexMaster (e.g., X:\Old\CloudView) and use that path as the NewIndexLocation.
    4. If using a SAN, mount the SAN on the NewIndexMaster and use that path as the NewIndexLocation.
    5. On the NewIndexMaster, re-point the Warp installation and services to the correct NewIndexLocation folder by running (in the administration console) InstallUtils.exe mode=chgidxpath idxip=<IP of NewIndexMaster> idxpath=<path of NewIndexLocation>.
    6. On the NewIndexMaster, locate the Deployment.xml file located under the config folder of the NewIndexLocation, and change the OldIndexMaster IP to the NewIndexMaster IP.
    7. Run buildgct in the bin folder of the NewIndexLocation on the NewIndexMaster.
    8. Start the Exalead Server service on NewIndexMaster.
Worker Migration
    1. Stop all services on the existing Index cluster, including the OldIndexMaster.
    2. Connect to an unconfigured Index Server (Exalead) VM.
    3. Install the Netmail Platform on the unconfigured Exalead VM NewIndexWorker, following the regular Netmail Archive installation process, but do not run the Warp Setup.
    4. On the NewIndexMaster locate the Deployment.xml file located in the NewIndexLocation config folder and change the OldIndexWorker IP to the NewIndexWorker IP.
    5. Run buildgct in the bin folder of the NewIndexLocation on the NewIndexMaster.
    6. Start the Index Server (Exalead) on the NewIndexMaster VM.
    7. Configure the NewIndexWorker and install an empty NewWorkerIndexLocation on a drive (e.g., C:\ ) by running: installutils mode=exaworkerconf idxpath=<path to drive to install on> idxip=<NewIndexWorker IP> masterip=<NewIndexMaster IP> configureserver=false
    8. Move the old indexes to the new Index folder. See the Index Server Upgrade Guide. for more information about moving indexes.
    9. On the NewIndexWorker, set up the Worker node by running InstallUtils.exe mode=registertocfscluster idxip=<NewIndexWorker IP> password=<Password of netmail user on NewIndexWorker> masterip=<NewIndexMaster IP> masterpassword=<Password of netmail user on NewIndexMaster> [masterport=<port to warp on the master index, default 8989>]
    10. Restart all services.
