Environment

Netmail 5.x

Synopsis

Using a common storage server with multiple volumes hosting multiple Netmail 5.x storage locations may trigger the following Windows error message when running Netmail Archive Jobs if the audit directories for the storage locations are physically located on different volumes of the storage server:

Error establishing a connection to //x.x.x.x/adt/. multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed

This article will explain how to work around this problem

Solution

A simple way to work around the Windows Error is to have a unique DNS name for each defined Audit path. For example:

  • Auditpath1

          \\Archive-EX.domain.org\ADT

  • Auditpath2

          \\Archive-GW.domain.org\ADT

  • Auditpath3

          \\Archive-Legal.domain.org\ADT

If adding DNS entries is not an option, the names can be added to the local c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file of each Netmail Archive server.

  1. Or try IP addresses instead

  2. Also check that the credentials supplied in the Webadmin "Locations" don't conflict with the user the services are running as.
