Environment

Netmail Secure 5.x

Synopsis

When using the Netmail WebAdministration console to manage Netmail Secure, the Spools, Message Tracking, and Quarantine tabs in the Secure object container are not populated with information and these pages may also be blank. The problem may be related to issues with the cluster file system (CFS), an abstracted file system developed in-house for Netmail Secure that handles auto-discovery and authentication. This article will explain how to troubleshoot the issue.

Solution

To determine if the interface issue is related to interruptions to CFS processes affecting the Netmail Secure agents, verbose logging should be activated on the Netmail Secure server to generate detailed information about the nature of the problem:

  • Open an SSH session and connect to the Netmail Secure server.

  • Obtain root privileges through the sudo su command.

  • Next, issue the following command to activate verbose logging for the Netmail Secure system:

          /opt/ma/netmail/sbin/launcher

  • When the results of the command are returned, check to see if the output of the command is similar to the following (key errors are bolded):

2014-03-08 12:10:07 Agent queue exited with state 2, log in /opt/ma/netmail/var/netmail/launcher-5.2.2.Release.141372_20140308121000/queue/20140308121000.log

If the output is similar to that shown in the example above, there are three possible reasons for the problem:

  • The CFSd service is not running

  • The CFS configuration file is corrupt

  • The primary language for the Linux system may not be set properly

1)   To see if the CFSd service is running, check the status by invoking the following command:

       # service cfsd status

  • If CFSd is not running, the following output will be returned:                            NetMail CFS Status: Not running.

  • If CFSd is not running, restart the service using the following command:        service cfsd start

While the service is starting up, the following message will be returned:         starting NetMail CFS

Once the service is running, verify whether the tabs under the Secure container in the WebAdministration console are displaying information again.

If they are not, the next step is to check the CFS configuration file (cfs.conf) for corruption:

2)  To check the cfs.conf file for corruption, change directory and view the file contents using the following commands:

      cd /opt/ma/netmail/etc

      cat cfs.conf

An intact CFS configuration file should have all the information shown in the example below (if there are multiple servers in the cluster, more information will be present):

If any information is missing from the configuration, the file will need to be re-created. Please contact Support for assistance.

If the file is intact and the issue is not resolved, the next step is to verify the primary system language configured for the Linux system using YaST.

YaST is a Linux operating system setup and configuration tool used with openSUSE Linux distributions.

3)   Check the primary Linux system language as follows:

  • Open an SSH session and connect to the Netmail Secure server.

  • Obtain root privileges through the sudo su command.

  • Run the YaST command:   yast

When the YaST interface is visible, select System > Language:

At the next screen, make sure that the Primary Language is set to English (US).  If it is set to another language, change it to English (US):

Save the changes and quit YaST.

Finally, reboot the server to activate the global change to the system language
